A little background about myself….I am a mother of 5 wonderful children. I graduated from the University of Utah with my Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family studies with my emphasis on Early Childhood Education. There, I was able to teach at the U of U preschool. I have taught preschool with all my children, and have consistently taught since 2013. I have loved each year!
My goal is to get your children ready for kindergarten and have fun along the way! We will do our best to learn all our letters and sounds and to get them ready to read. (Hopefully, halfway through the year, they will be reading books. I have some beginner books they are welcome to check-out!) This takes some help on the parents’ part too! J I love learning and helping children find joy in learning also.
We use the Letter Factory- Leap Frog Movie to help learn these letters and sounds. This dvd is great and I recommend it to anyone trying to help their child get ready for reading and kindergarted! Each of my children learned their letters with the help of this movie! (It’s around $7 on Amazon and at Walmart)
Each month I will send home a calendar with themes, letters and numbers we are working on each day. Attached are worksheets for your child to work on at their own pace and return to school for a treat.
We also use the “Sound Box” books by Jane Moncure to introduce each letter. They are welcome to bring an item that starts with the letter of the week to put in the sound box each Tuesday.
About halfway through the year we will start working on their pass off charts. Our goal is to have everything checked off the chart by the end of the year for the older children. The younger children may only pass off a few things. This includes:
- Days of the Week
- Recites Pledge of Allegiance
- Knows parents’ names
- Knows colors
- Knows shapes
- Counts to 30
- Counts to 50
- Recites phone number
- Recites address
- Recognizes alphabet letters
- Writes name
- Sign language alphabet
We have two programs each year (one for Halloween and one at the end of the year). We are hoping to have a couple fieldtrips throughout the year as well.
Each week we will have a “special helper” for the week. They are in charge of helping with circle time (pledge, alphabet, stars of the day, days of the week, etc.) They are welcome to bring an item for “show and tell” during their week.
Lastly, this has been such a joy for me to teach children and get them ready for kindergarten! We will have a great year and learn so much! Thank you for letting me teach your child!
